The Dominican Republic is a country located just south of the United States on the Island, Hispaniola. The island is approximately 225 miles west of Puerto Rico and 400 miles east of Cuba. The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island and Haiti occupies the western one-third. On the northern coast of the country is the Atlantic Ocean, and on the southern coast is the Caribbean Sea.The country is approximately 48,670 sq km (18,704 square miles) and their population is currently near 10,720,000 people.
