In January, we had a team in the Dominican Republic and one of our focus’ was on safe water. We partnered with SWIM For Him (Safe Water International Ministry). We went around to our different partners and demonstrated how making a chlorine solution could not only kill the bacteria, worms and e.coli we saw under the microscope, but could also be an income generating business. Most people buy bottled water in the Dominican Republic because the treatment system is not great.
By using just a drop of the chlorine solution, they wouldn’t have to spend so much of their minimal finances on water everyday. Some of our sites are running with this idea and are starting small businesses. They make the chlorine solution, purchase the bottles and sell it to their friends and family for a fraction of the cost. Seeing is believing! The demonstration is powerful to watch. One drop of solution on a screen of dirty water and all the bad critters die before our eyes. Imagine safe water for everyone that can’t afford to even purchase bottled water. This is life changing for so many we serve. Equipping and empowering them to develop their own businesses to help others. Joy!
